Have you ever been driving behind a pickup truck that had a bunch of junk in the back and wondered what would happen if something they were hauling fell off and hit your car; or landed in the middle of the road and there was nothing you could do other than hit it?
One time I was traveling on the interstate going to a gig, following a pickup truck while I was talking to my sister on my cell phone. I noticed a blue ball in the back of that truck bouncing around. You know the kind of ball I mean, a kid’s ball you could pick up for a few dollars at Wal-Mart, about the size of a basketball. As I was driving, talking with my sister, I kept watching that ball bouncing around in the back of that truck, when all of a sudden the wind caught it and literally carried that ball until SMACK! It hit my windshield! I couldn’t believe it; I ducked, jumped and thought it was going to hit me in the face! Luckily it was so light and soft, it just bounced off into the ditch. It didn’t hurt my windshield, but it sure scared me! I said to my sister, “You won’t believe what just happened!” And I told her the details.
I’m sure everyone has followed a flat bed semi with his load tied down….and have you ever wondered what you would do if one of those ties broke or came loose and whatever he was hauling came at you? I have wondered those things many times before, but never have I wondered what I would do if I saw a road sign coming at me! I mean, I’ve passed many road signs in my numerous miles of traveling, but never have I given road signs a second thought. Have you ever hit a road sign before? Have you ever had a road sign hit you? Well, that’s exactly what happened to me yesterday morning going to work. (Playing piano at Von Maur)
I was traveling on an 11 mile stretch of a county highway and there were workers doing something to the middle lines on the road. It looked like they had put tar on the lines and then coated them with sand. I saw one sign that said “Fresh Tar”. Every so often there were signs posted that said “No Road Markings”. This went on for most of the 11 miles of this particular road. I was just driving along minding my own business when all of a sudden, a gust of wind picked up one of those signs that was held down by sand bags and thrust it into the side of my car. It was going to hit my windshield but I swerved into the other lane and it hit the side of my car instead! I was shocked and upset! As soon as could, I pulled over, got out and looked at my car. There was a nice dent and both front and back passenger doors are all scraped up. Why do all the crazy things happen to me!? Needless to say, I was late to work because of it!
Well, I guess I wouldn’t have much to write about if only ‘normal’ things happen to me. At least ‘crazy’ keeps life interesting! So, keep reading my blog, I have a lifetime of crazy to share!
Your last story about the road signs may be CRAZY but I would also have been upset! You do have some crazy stories to tell! :-). And always interesting I might add plus funny. You’ve never written or told a boring story yet!
Thank you Maury!
Crazy things happen to the crazy! lol
Very funny Sharon!
